What is the easiest way to repair ceiling wall board that I just partially steped through.?
I was in the attic and partially lost my balance and almost stepped through the sheetrock. I now have a nice star crack in the ceiling of my bathoom. Luckily I didnt step all the way through. Any thoughts on easy repairs.
Is the drywall indented now? If not, just go to Home Depot and get some drywall tape, small bucket of plaster and a 6" knife. Tape over the cracks and than plaster over the tape with at least 2 coats, probably 3. Allow 1 day for each coat to dry. A day after the final coat, sand it down. By the way, if the cracks are very tiny, you could probably get away with not using tape and thus only have to do one coat of plaster. If the cracks are too big and you don't use tape, the cracks will likely show up again after time.
If it is indented, you have 2 choices, whichever you think is the most approriate and or easier. You could cut the damaged piece out along both studs. Than screw in a new piece of dry wall to the studs that is the exact same size of the square you cut out. Than go back to step one to coat over the seams. Your other choice is to go back up to the attic and screw a 2 by 4 or piece of plywood between the joists directly above the cracks. Than screw in drywall into wood. Than coat over cracks.
