Watts Karaoke
Karaoke Setup?

I hope there's a sound techy out there that can help me. I am setting up a second karaoke system that I can run. Because of my size and age, weight is a real issue, as I will have to load and unload this system myself. What I have: CAVS 203G USB Player 7.7lbs VocoPro PKJ-9090 Mixer/Amp Combo. 450 watt amp. 25lbs. If I run two speakers off this amp, does that mean each speakers output will be 225 watts? Is that going to be loud enough for a small bar? My questions: Should I buy another amp to back up this one? I would like to run at least two speakers plus a monitor speaker. Could I put powered speakers with this system, and not have to worry about my amp wattage? I was wondering if I could get powered speakers and just run the mics and the monitor off the PKJ-9090. Also trying to find a case that will be light weight and have some room for expansion. Any suggestions or recommendations of what might make my system better will be greatly appreciated. I looked up the spec manual for your VocoPro PKJ mixer/amp. If you use 8 ohm speakers, you will power a pair at 80 watts each or 160 watts average. If you use 4 ohm speakers, you will power a pair at 110 watts each or 220 watts average. The 450 watts is really the "maximum" or peak and is not what is usually considered the RMS or average power output for speakers over a long time of performance. If you can get the 4 ohm speakers it would put out more volume than the 8ohmn ones. That should be enough for a small bar. Speakers are also usually labeled as say for example: 150 watts RMS to 300 watts. That means you should use the 150 watts as your average use. Most of the time the peak watts on a speaker is double the average rating of the speaker. You can get a powered speaker for a monitor and hook it up to the Vocopro PKJ "booth" jack which is a 1/4 jack so you will either need a 1/4 inch speaker cable to plug into the booth and then into the back of the powered speaker. If the powered speaker does not have a 1/4 inch jack then you can probably get an adapter from whatever jack it has to the 1/4 inch size of the speaker cable.

I'm not sure if you can use powered speakers for your mains since the mixer has the built- in amp.

Something to consider is that if you buy the speakers and the powered monitor speaker, try to buy them within a day or two of each other so that you can test the whole system. If the speakers don't make the cut for you hopefully you could return them depending on the return policy where you buy them so check that out ahead of time too.

The lighest cases I know of are the molded type ones definately not the wood case which are heavy. You will need to make sure you get one that has a solid rack system and not a fragile one. Probaly a slant rack for your mixer on top and some space on the bottom for your Cavs player. Maybe Voco Pro has a case for the mixer/amp?
