What receiver do I need?

I need a receiver, I am going to get 5 Speakercraft in ceiling speakers,

And I need a 5.1 surround sound receiver, but I have a logitech z2300 powered woofer that I want to use for my bass. I will not be using the speakers, of course, only the woofer.

Any suggestions? What should I look for in a receiver, and is this logitech to receiver even possible? Thanks in advance

Hey Al -

As far as AVRs go, I'd go with either Onkyo or Marantz. Onkyo is a related product line to Integra which is well known for performance and ease of integration for most Custom Home Theaters. Integra is more of a commercial grade AVR, which is why they may be found, typically, only through Home Theater stores.

As for the 5 speakers you are getting, great choice, I've installed several pairs of these for 5.1, and even 7.1 systems, whole house audio, and even outdoors on patios and such. They have great sound, and the adjustable tweeter really makes a difference when your "dialing in" your listening sweet spot!

As for the Logitech piece you mentioned, I don't think it will work as a regular powered sub like you are planning. According to the specs I saw, it appears to be more designed for PCs, Game Consoles, MP3 Players, and the likes. I don't believe it will have the necessary (RCA) type jack you'll need to run it from an AVR Subwoofer Pre-Out. It may be possible, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Hope that helps your AV quest.
