Tips On Making A Small Bedroom Seem Larger
In most homes, there is at least one bedroom that is smaller than the others. It can be difficult to fit in just the basic furniture, let alone extras such as a television, game system, and desk. However, there are ways to organize it and make it seem much larger.
The furniture is the most important part of any room. A full size loft bed can sleep two comfortably or one in luxury. With the sleeping platform elevated, the floor space below can be used for other purposes. You can place a desk, a futon, or bookcases underneath the bed, thus making the same area serve double duty.
You will use a great deal more of your available floor space for a dresser than a chest. However, do not purchase a massive chest, since it can actually cause a room to seem more crowded. You could also eliminate both items and use organizers in the closet to store things that you would normally keep in a dresser or chest.
Hang a wall mirror to serve as a grooming aid and to make the room seem both brighter and larger. One without a frame or that has only a thin metal band as a frame is best. Oval and rectangular shapes work about equally well, so choose whichever you prefer. Never try to squeeze a free standing mirror into a crowded bedroom.
Choose a bedding collection in light colors. You can use solids that you mix or match or small prints, but do not use large, dark floral prints as they will make the room feel small. The best choice may be a combination of pale solids and tiny prints, since an unbroken pattern can sometimes be overwhelming.
You can easily decorate the bed with a quilt set. Choose patterns that feature an expanse of ecru cotton and use colors like hunter green, dark blue, or burgundy very sparingly. You can also choose a quilt with a solid ecru or white background and small designs embroidered onto it rather than selecting a patchwork design.
Limit wall hangings and accessories. Too much art on the walls can make it seem as if they are closing in on you. Accessories add clutter and make cleaning and dusting more difficult. Uncluttered rooms seem larger, so you also want to establish a place for all belongings and keep them put away.
With just a little planning, you can change the look and feel of the tiniest room in your home. Consider how the scale, lighting, and colors will work together and optimize the combination. You will have a room that is not only more cheerful, but highly functional as well.
