Atco Windsor Electric Mowers Review
There is one look that many gardeners still strive for - the stripes on a newly-mown lawn. The sharp lines show off beautifully the softer, more informal planting in the beds and borders.
In the past you had to have a heavy petrol cylinder lawnmower if you wanted to get that look. With large gardens, there was little other option. Most people now have more modest gardens, which is where an Atco Windsor electric cylinder lawnmower can really help.
They allow you to get those classic stripes, but are manoeuvrable, quiet and convenient.
The Atco Windsor is available in two cutting widths, the 12” Windsor 12S and the Windsor 14S (14” unsurprisingly!).So there's a mower exactly to suit your lawn size.
In other respects the two models are very similar. The same efficient 340 watt motor powers both, driving the rear roller and the 5-blade cylinder which cuts the lawn to a fine finish.
You set your preferred mowing speed with a control dial, and engage the drive to the rear roller with a full-width control bar mounted on the handle. There is a safety cut-off switch for your protection.
The cutting height is set using a rotary dial on the side of the mower body, in 5 steps from 10 to 35 mm. This makes light work of what is often a fiddly job.
Atco mowers have patented the QX system, where the cutting cylinder is easily changed for a scarifying cassette which turns your mower into a powered lawn rake.
Another good idea is the compactor on the grassbox, which essentially doubles the capacity of the already large box and cuts down the frequency of emptying trips.
The 14S has an extra feature - a spring-tine comb which lifts up the grass prior to cutting.
The 12S weighs in at only 24.5 kg (54 lb); the 14S is some 3.5 kg (7 lb) heavier, so getting in and out of awkward corners shouldn't be difficult. Storage is helped by the fold-down handle.
The Atco Windsor is backed up with a 12 month manufacturers warranty and is built to last for years. If you want stripes a small to medium sized lawn, a Windsor from Atco could be the best choice you could make.
