The Life Of A Young Teen
When a listless youth has free time, having available in the spare room a dreadnought acoustic guitar may well save the day. Boredom is part and parcel of the teenage years and once processed will have them find their own direction in life. Playing guitar or singing along to some favorite songs is a pleasant experience for them.
Keeping the mind occupied or being physically active alleviates feelings of lethargy that most teens have at some stage of puberty. If not during the whole stage of it. Keeping up with their peers is essential for them to continue developing social skills, including being able to talk to people. Sharing a graphic lcd with friends to watch a much loved show is great entertainment during the early years.
Other programs that are popular with teens are the animated cartoons that depict young people in relationships. The Anime series from Japan have dozens of episodes detailing conversations between males and females. When tired of these and no parents are around, the erotic comics can come out from under the bed.
Collectibles are fun to buy and can be worth something in later years. Shopping for the latest in mod apparel and getting the hair-do most resembling the hair-don't is all part of learning individualism and standing up for oneself. Acceptance of each other is a start to acceptance of self and of the world.
Teens will take up responsibility when they are encouraged to do so, or when they feel they are ready for it. Learning their own mind from that of their friends may take a little longer to achieve as it is easier to hide behind others or wear a mask that is the same as the people around them. This will have to be initiated by themselves as Independence cannot be forced.
Learning who they are from the viewpoints of self identity or ego, creativity, ability to communicate with others and respect for self and others, are some of the challenges they face. Advice is encouraged to be given by parents and guardians mostly when it is asked for. Adults must be very discerning to know when to offer advice and when to just listen and get them to do all the talking.
Depression usually strikes people first in their teenage years. This is a situation that needs to be understood. It has been described as a disease but may be part of a growth stage for a person still developing. It is not something that should be ignored or denied. Communication about how they feel and what makes them feel that way is an important part of the process to recover.
Sooner or later the child will emerge as the young adult and life hopefully will be a lot smoother then. After the sometimes tumultuous experiences of the teenage years it is a blessing to see them settle down in whatever way best suits them. Parents can wish them all the best and let them get on with it.
