Was McCain singled out for special treatment when he was captured by the North Vietnamese?
Vietnamese officials and even other POWs have said that McCain was treated as a guest of honor by the North Vietnamese and not as a POW shortly after his capture. When they learned he was the son of an American admiral, they wanted to keep him as a healthy bargaining chip for use in negotiations. He was given special quarters, looked after by a nurse, and did not stay in the camps that the other POWs were kept in.
They say the injury to his arm was sustained when he ejected from his plane and during his initial encounter with the Vietnamese villagers who beat him. It was not as the result of torture as McCain claims. They also say that his story that he was offered to be freed as a professional courtesy and turned it down was a complete, 100% fabrication. There's also resentment among POWs that Sen. McCain has stonewalled all subsequent inquiries into POW issues for reasons only McCain knows.
When the Vietnamese found out who McCain was, did he really get special treatment?
Have the Democrats actually become so desperate that you have to make up crap like this? Your party is dead. Let it die and move on.
