Help! Aeroflot Moscow Transit (New Terminal D) problem?

Five people (inc. me) are flying HKG-SVO-CDG v.v. in mid-February, after SVO T3 (D) opens officially. However, the problem is mainly with visas. A member of our travelling group holds a passport-type that requires Russian visa, while the rest of us hold visa-free. The dillema is due to the opening of T3, the SVO-CDG flight will be in T3 while HKG-SVO is T2. According to DL and other sources, visa is not required for not exiting the airport (stay within transit area) but is required for moving from T1 to T2. However, on the other hand, Aeroflot says in a press release that it operates a transit bus between those terminals, but I am unsure if it is considered exiting transit area? You should definitely call Aeroflot to make sure the bus service and the inter-terminal transfers are available. Russians are notorious for putting information on their websites but when it comes to reality, it is a very different ball game.

If you find that the inter-terminal transfers are available, you should check what your situation will be with the transfer. If you are going to spend just a few hours in the airport, there would be no need to get a get a transit visa, as long as you do not leave the airport. If you stay in the airport, there are some nice restaurants, good duty-free shopping and there are places to settle down and relax for the duration of your stay.

If you are considering visiting Moscow, you should consider getting a transit visa. You will be allowed to enter into Russia for a bit of time and then make it back to your airplane. With the next rail service from Sheremetevo to the city, you might have a chance of going to see the Kremlin and Red Square but again, it all depends on how long the layover is.

But check with the airline about how dependable the inter-terminal transfer is and if you will actually need it. Aeroflot will know best the situation in the airports and can provide advice and if you do need a visa, it would only be a transit visa.
