Super short trip to Paris, please help.?
I am going to Paris, end of August, for a very short trip with a friend and she thinks we can see a lot of major sights within a little less than 2 days. Is this true? (My top sights: Louvre, Notre Dame, Musée d'Orsay, Versailles, Eiffel Tower, and Arc de Triomphe) (Time: Plane lands at CDG Friday 11am, train leaves at 6:45pm Sunday) Please help, this is my first trip out of the country. Thank you very much.
Assuming that you are flying out of the US or Canada, you are going to be really jet lagged. On the day you arrive, by 5 pm Paris time, you are going to feel horribly tired. If you have never worked the third shift as a doctor, nurse, paramedic, you will find out how it feels. Get a good start by sleeping on the plane to Paris IMMEDIATELY. Definitely do NOT stay up to see the movie even if its free. Many seasoned travelers will even skip supper on the plane so that they can sleep. Another strategy is to drink no caffeinated drinks a day or two before you fly. So, when you drink coffee in France, you'll get a maximum charge from it. Suggest that you book a hotel before you go (so you won't have to spend hours looking for one there).
On Friday, rush to your hotel and drop off your luggage (don't carry too much-- in France it is perfectly acceptable to wear the exact same clothes 2 days in a row). Take a bus tour of the whole city (can be in English and takes about 2 hours). You;ll see EVERYTHING briefly, Sacre Coeur, Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe, etc. You can then spend time at a place that really interests you. You can have supper at that restaurant built into the Eifel Tower itself. Normally, I don't suggest restaurants at tourist attractions bc they are expensive and the food is usually so so (why do they have to cook well? the tourists will come regardless). But in this case, eating in the restaurant means that you get free admission to the Eifel tower (though not to the top level) and you can enjoy the view from the restaurant.
Saturday is the only full day you have. Visit the place you want to see most.
On Sunday, there MIGHT be a museum open, but check their website. Even if everything's closed, it is still fun to take a walk and to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Paris streets. You can still have nice meals on Sundays.
In the future, try to schedule more time off since it is an ordeal to fly from N. America. If you're from the UK, then the jet lag won't be so bad. Have a great trip!
